Nicholas O’Donohue graduated from Melbourne University and did his articles of clerkship under Maurice Blackburn – whose legacy is now the legal firm Maurice Blackburn. In 1925 he started his own practice in Melbourne. Over the years the firm changed its name as other practices were merged into the principal practice, before returning to the name Nicholas O’Donohue & Co. in the 1970s. The practice is associated with a number of significant historical legal cases resulting in changes to Victorian society around post war migration, housing, finance and property development.
